Christmas Eve Exception for Farolito and Luminaria Burning
Santa Fe Fire Department Chief Brian Moya and Fire Marshal Geronimo Griego have granted citywide amnesty for farolito and luminaria burning beginning at sundown on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and ending at dawn on Thursday, December 25, 2025.
Under normal circumstances, open burning without a permit issued by the Santa Fe Fire Department is prohibited under the City's Fire Code. However, this temporary seasonal amnesty allows community members throughout the City of Santa Fe to safely burn farolitos and luminarias on Christmas Eve in celebration of the holiday.
Residents are encouraged to practice safe burning and to follow all standard fire safety precautions while enjoying this cherished tradition.
