WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast called for an investigation into the taxpayer funding of abortions in Mozambique through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

"It is disgraceful and unacceptable that PEPFAR and the Centers for Disease Control diverted American tax dollars to fund abortions in Mozambique," Chairman Mast said. "We need to know where else PEPFAR funds have been illegally rerouted. The State Department and CDC must investigate to ensure that not one penny of PEPFAR goes toward abortion."

Chairman Mast was notified that PEPFAR funded at least 21 abortions in Mozambique between April 2022 and June 2024. This is a shocking violation of U.S. law codified in the Helms Amendment.
