Tan Tieniu delivers academic lecture at Ministry of Water Resources

On August 11, the Scientific and Technological Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources (hereinafter referred to as "the Committee") held its 14th lecture on technological innovation and science popularization in Beijing. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to deliver an academic report titled "Accurately Grasping the Development Trend of Artificial Intelligence and Promoting Chinese Modernization Empowered by Artificial Intelligence." Li Guoying, Party Secretary and Minister of the Ministry of Water Resources, along with members of the Party Leading Group and Deputy Ministers Liu Dongshun, Wang Bao'en, and Sun Zhiyu, attended the lecture. The lecture was presided over by Wu Wenqing, Chief Engineer of the Ministry.

In his report, Tan Tieniu comprehensively reviewed the 70-year development process of artificial intelligence technology, systematically analyzed the current status and overall trends in the development of artificial intelligence, and deeply examined the significant impact of artificial intelligence on economic and societal development as well as industrial transformation. He also conducted an integrated evaluation of future development trends and explored practical pathways for artificial intelligence to empower Chinese modernization. He engaged in an in-depth interactive exchange with the audience on key issues, such as the application of artificial intelligence in disaster prevention and mitigation and critical research priorities. The audience unanimously expressed that the lecture was rich in content, insightful, highly targeted, and forward-looking, providing essential guidance and a stimulating impact on their future work.

Yu Qiyang, Chief Planner of the Ministry of Water Resources, attended the lecture. Representatives from relevant departments participated in the lecture through a combination of online and offline formats.
