Sarasota Climbs Eight Spots to Claim No. 1 Destination; Florida Now Secures the Top Three Most Popular Move-In Cities
CLEARWATER, Fla. (October 6, 2026) - PODS Enterprises, LLC, an industry leader that revolutionized the moving and storage category through its portable container service offerings, today released its annual Moving Trends Report Pulse Check, offering an updated look at long-distance moving demand following the summer moving season.
The latest data reveals a significant shift from the company's sixth annual Moving Trends Report released earlier this year, with Florida now home to the top three most sought-after move-in destinations in the country.
Leading the way is Sarasota, Florida, which surged eight spots from its ninth ranking in May's Moving Trends Report to claim the number one position in the Pulse Check. Orlando and Tampa Bay followed closely behind, marking the first time all three top spots have been held by Florida markets.
Unlike the annual Moving Trends Report, which analyzes completed long-distance moves, the Pulse Check examined underlying long-distance moving demand based on inquiries from May through August 2026, providing an early indicator of where Americans are considering relocating before booking a move.
Florida reclaims the spotlight
When PODS released its 2026 Moving Trends Report in May, destinations across the Carolinas and Sun Belt dominated inbound moves. While those regions remain popular, Florida has emerged as the clear frontrunner heading into the fall.
Sarasota's jump to number one represents one of the most significant shifts observed this year. Orlando climbed second in the Pulse Check after not being on the top 10 list in May, with Tampa Bay showing similar momentum at number three.
"We expected the Carolinas to keep leading. Instead, Florida swept the top three," said James Shively, Chief Operating Officer at PODS. "Sarasota jumping eight spots in four months is not a small shift. It tells us people are likely still chasing affordability and a relaxed lifestyle, and right now, Florida is winning both. This pattern points to one thing: Floridians are betting on affordability and climate over big-city status."

Coastal metros and Northeastern markets continue to see outbound demand
On the move-out side, many of the same high-cost metropolitan areas that appeared in May's Moving Trends Report remain at the top of the list. Los Angeles once again leads outbound demand, followed by Boston and Washington, D.C.
Several Northeastern markets also continue to rank among those experiencing the strongest move-out interest, including Long Island, Hudson Valley, Central Jersey, Hartford, and Philadelphia.
