NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans is proud to announce a series of events celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year's theme, "Living the Dream: Justice, Equality, and Hope," highlights the ongoing commitment to honor Dr. King's vision of unity and progress.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell invites residents and visitors to participate in the citywide celebrations, which include community service projects, cultural events, and educational opportunities. "Dr. King's enduring message of justice and equality continues to inspire our City to strive for progress and unity," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "We encourage everyone to join us in celebrating his remarkable legacy through these meaningful events."

Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Choral Celebration
Date: Thursday, Jan. 16
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: UNO University Center Ballroom, 2000 Lakeshore Drive
Description: Join the 16th annual choral celebration for an evening of stirring musical performances honoring Dr. King.
National Conference of Artists MLK Commemorative Art Exhibition
Date: Saturday, Jan. 18
Time: 12 p.m.. - 4 p.m.
Location: Ashé Cultural Arts Center, 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd
Description: Celebrate the 28th commemorative art exhibition with works by national artists and a special tribute to civil rights leaders Doratha "Dodie" Smith Simmons and Jerome "Big Duck" Smith.
A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina)
Date: Saturday, Jan. 18
Time: 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Location: 129 Roosevelt Way
Description: In honor of the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, GRAMMY-winning composer and New Orleans native Terence Blanchard will perform his powerful piece, A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina), alongside the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Featuring Blanchard's sextet and a visual tapestry by Andrew F. Scott, this emotional work explores themes of resilience and recovery.
39th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Service
Date: Sunday, Jan. 19
Time: 12 p.m.
Location: Treme Holy Faith Temple, 1325 Gov. Nicholls Street
Description: This memorial service features dynamic speeches, musical performances, spoken word, and a documentary on local civil rights contributions.
15th Annual R.E.A.L. March
Date: Monday, Jan. 20
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: A.L. Davis Playground, 2600 Lasalle St.
Description: For more than 30 years, members and friends of R.E.A.L. (Recreating the Environmental Ability to Live) have marched in honor of Dr. King.
