SR 316 Bundle 1 Project February 2026 Newsletter

S1

Work along the State Route (SR) 316 corridor continues to advance with visible progress taking shape across multiple areas of the project.

Grading and roadway preparation remain active along key portions of the corridor. Crews have been shaping and fine grading areas near Barber Creek Road, Bethlehem Road, the ramps, the SR 316 inside shoulders, and Craft Frontage Road as work continues to prepare these sections for upcoming paving and roadway construction.

Base construction, the foundational layer beneath future pavement, has progressed along Craft Frontage Road and the inside shoulders of SR 316. These areas are now being prepared for the next phases of construction once inspections and weather conditions permit paving operations to proceed.

At the Bethlehem Road bridge, the structural framework that supports the bridge deck has been completed, marking important progress toward the finished roadway. At the Barber Creek Road bridge, the deck support structure was completed in mid-January, followed by the successful bridge deck pour later in the month. With the deck now in place, crews will continue working on barrier walls and curing operations.

Drainage work is still underway. Crews completed the construction of the box culvert near Williams Drive on SR 316 eastbound in late January, supporting long-term stormwater management and roadway stability.

Utility relocations are progressing near Barber Creek Road, where crews have been installing water lines along the south end of the project and Wylie McGuire Road.

Erosion control and maintenance activities continue throughout the corridor. Crews are maintaining silt fencing, construction exits, orange barrier fencing, and temporary mulch to protect nearby waterways and keep work areas orderly and safe. Traffic control measures remain in place to guide drivers safely through active work zones.

Over the coming weeks, crews will begin paving in some of the widening areas along SR 316, helping shape the future travel lanes. Work will also continue along Craft Frontage Road and Ventura Street, where crews will be placing graded aggregate base (GAB) in preparation for asphalt paving in the coming months.

At both the Bethlehem Road and Barber Creek Road bridges, crews will continue advancing construction by finishing subdeck walls and preparing for the next stages of bridge deck and barrier wall work. Grading operations will continue along Bethlehem Road and SR 316, with crews performing culvert backfills, ditch cuts, and roadway grading on Bethlehem Road and the ramps.

Winter Weather and Work Zone Awareness on SR 316

As winter continues, cold temperatures and changing weather can create added challenges for both drivers and construction crews along SR 316.

Winter Travel Tips for SR 316:

  • Watch for Slick Surfaces:Bridges, ramps, and shaded areas can freeze first. Slow down and avoid sudden braking when temperatures drop near or below freezing.

  • Be Work Zone Ready: Winter operations may involve utility crews, equipment staging, or temporary traffic controls. Stay alert for flaggers, cones, and message boards.

  • Give Crews Extra Space: Workers are often performing detailed tasks close to traffic. Extra following distance helps protect everyone in the work zone.

  • Plan for Short Delays: Temporary lane closures or slow-moving construction vehicles may be necessary as crews prepare the corridor for upcoming roadway and bridge work.

By staying cautious, patient, and aware of winter driving conditions, you can help keep SR 316 safe while important work continues to move this project forward.

Did you know that cold weather affects how pavement and bridge materials behave? In winter, materials like asphalt and steel expand on warmer days and contract on cooler days as temperatures change. That is why certain construction activities are carefully scheduled during colder months, helping ensure the new bridges and roadway improvements along SR 316 are built for long-term durability and performance.
