Governor Mills promises smooth transition for incoming administration
Augusta, MAINE - Governor Janet Mills tonight issued the following statement congratulating Hannah Pingree on being elected as the next governor of Maine:
"Tonight, Maine people chose Hannah Pingree to lead our state for the very same reasons I asked her to serve in my administration eight years ago: her deep experience, sound judgment, and relentless optimism for Maine's future. I am proud to congratulate Governor-elect Pingree on her decisive victory.
"My Administration will ensure a smooth transition for the incoming Governor and her team. The Governor-elect will receive full collaboration and support from my administration as she prepares to be inaugurated in January as Maine's 76th Governor."
The Governor has invited the Governor-elect and her family to visit the Blaine House this month.
Governor-elect Pingree served in the Mills Administration as Director of the Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future from 2019-2025. She is a former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives.
Governor Mills was elected as Maine's first woman governor in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. In her historic victories, she earned more votes than any governor in Maine history and became the first governor since 1970 to be elected with a majority of the vote for both terms in office.
