First candidate announced for next vice president for research

A University of Iowa search committee has announced the first finalist for the next vice president for research.

Belinda McSwain Sturm

Belinda McSwain Sturm is the director of the Kansas National Science Foundation's Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) and professor and Ross McKinney Faculty Fellow in environmental engineering at the University of Kansas. She held the associate director position of the Kansas EPSCoR program from 2020-2022. She also served as interim vice chancellor for research at the University of Kansas from 2023-2024 and associate vice chancellor for research from 2018-2022.

Sturm will meet with faculty, staff, students, shared governance and campus leadership during a campus visit Oct. 10-11. She will participate in an open forum from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Urmila Sahai Seminar Room (room 2117) of the Medical Education Research Facility, 375 Newton Road.
