To increase availability of on-campus parking for visitors, patients, and employees, Mount Sinai South Nassau next month will implement a comprehensive on-campus parking system as it opens a new 800-spot parking structure.
Effective Monday, February 2, Mount Sinai South Nassau's 800-plus spaces employee parking structure will officially open, expanding and centralizing parking for hospital staff. The new garage is designed to help employees find parking more efficiently and ease parking pressures on surrounding residential streets.
Parking Lot 3 will be designated for visitor and patient parking only. Handicapped parking is available in lots 4, 5, 6, 7 and in front of the hospital near the main entrance. Fennessy Family Emergency Department patients and visitors will continue to park in Lot 7 off Oceanside Road outside of the Emergency Department ambulatory entrance (click here for the hospital campus parking map).
In addition to the expanded and upgraded campus parking, the hospital also will introduce a new parking fee payment schedule for visitors and valet parking service.
Patient parking is complementary and accessible via Lot 6 off Washington Avenue as well as Lots 3 and 7. Hourly rates for visitor parking are $4 for up to two hours; $6 for two to four hours; and $9 for more than four hours (up to 24 hours). The digital parking system allows visitors to pay via mobile app, text-to-pay, or a kiosk using credit cards and digital wallets, allowing for a faster exit. Mount Sinai South Nassau joins most other hospitals on Long Island that charge a fee for visitor parking.
Valet parking will continue to be available at the hospital's main entrance and provides front-door access. The Valet Parking rates will be $11 for two hours, $14 for two to four hours, and $18 for up to 24 hours.
The new parking system will be managed by Parking Systems, which operates parking lots at many locations on Long Island, including at other hospitals. Representatives from Parking Systems will be available around the clock to assist visitors and employees with parking issues.
"This upgrade of our on-campus parking is focused on alleviating hospital-related parking congestion on the side streets and in front of our neighbors' homes while addressing the parking needs of our patients, employees, and visitors," said Adhi Sharma, MD, President, Mount Sinai South Nassau. "By supporting a managed parking system, our lots will be reserved exclusively for those seeking or supporting patient care and visiting the hospital."
Prior to the opening of the $30 million 800-spot parking garage, hundreds of hospital employees used a shuttle service from Lot 12 on Sunrise Highway that the hospital leased from the Village of Rockville Centre. The shuttle arrangement-necessary during construction of the new garage-added time to employees' commute and was an additional expense to the hospital. The shuttle will be discontinued once the new parking garage is opened.
The employee parking garage features wide ramps, the latest LED lighting, and help kiosks for non emergency issues that connect callers to a Parking Systems representative.
