Fatal hunting incident

On November 6, 2024, at 8:45 P.M., Troopers out of SP Machias responded to Plato Road in the town of East Otto for a check the welfare of a hunter. Investigation determined that Mark P. Scanlon, 54 of Buffalo, NY went hunting off Plato Road and did not return to his vehicle. Troopers located Scanlon in a wooded area deceased from an apparent fall from a portable tree stand. No signs of foul play and the body was taken to Olean General Hospital for an autopsy.
