Gainesville to unveil new GFR fire engine

Published on August 21, 2026

City of Gainesville leaders invite area neighbors to attend a dedication ceremony at Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) Station 4 for its newest firetruck, Engine 4.

When: 10 a.m. Thurs., August 27

Where: GFR Fire Station 4, 10 SW 36th St.

During the event, neighbors will have the opportunity to help GFR firefighters push the new truck into the station bay. The tradition dates to the era before motorized vehicles, when placing hand-drawn hose carts and horse-drawn steam engines into the firehouse required a hands-on approach.

The city's newest fire engine replaces the station's current fire truck which has averaged more than 2,300 response calls annually over five years. The new engine is capable of carrying 750 gallons of water and is equipped with specialized tools and equipment to support rapid intervention during emergency incidents. As an Advanced Life Support vehicle, Engine 4 is deployed with state-certified emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
