In March 2024, the Commission launched a call for proposals worth EUR 11 million, as outlined in the 2024 work programme for Multimedia Actions. The call aimed to enhance the quantity, quality and impact of audiovisual reporting on EU affairs in as many languages and EU countries as possible, particularly where such content is scarce. The call was divided into two topics:

  • Topic 1: Production and broadcasting of programmes on EU affairs, including the activities and policies of EU institutions, with an allocation of EUR 8M
  • Topic 2: News services in languages with limited coverage of EU affairs and/or where the diversity of EU news content can be improved. This topic had an allocation of EUR 3M and must include an international audiovisual news service in Hungarian

Two projects have been selected, starting in October-November 2024, with a duration of one year. They must adhere to professional journalistic standards and maintain full editorial independence guaranteed by an editorial charter. The two projects are proposed by the tv broadcaster Euronews (France).

The call for proposals is part of the Multimedia Actions EU budget line which funds general EU information, news and programmes for the public from a European perspective. This funding line consisted of a total of €20.7 million in 2024. This line is entirely open to competition this year.
