After selling some of his shares in two Indiana limited liability companies, Harper allegedly used the LLCs' funds to pay down personal obligations. Following a bench trial, the Elkhart Superior Court awarded the plaintiffs damages under the Crime Victims Relief Act, finding Harper's actions were akin to criminal conversion. The Court of Appeals affirmed the judgment but found Harper's actions should be characterized as theft instead of conversion. Harper v. S&H Leasing, LLC, 260 N.E.3d 960 (Ind. Ct. App. 2025), trans. pending. Harper has petitioned the Indiana Supreme Court to accept jurisdiction over the appeal.
