The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, opened the Fourth Republic of Serbia - Republic of Srpska Parliamentary Forum, stressing that his format is an important step forward in the strengthening of the institutional cooperation between the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina.
She called for a concretisation of common activities and for defining priority initiatives.
"I would like us, as a Parliamentary Forum, to be more concrete, to define the initiatives important for the Serbian people and to actively implement them so that we may show their results to the citizens", Brnabic said.
She underscored the importance of building memorial centres in Belgrade and Donja Gradina, emphasising the importance of preserving the culture of remembrance, in order to create a permanent space and educational exhibition dedicated to the victims, not only of the Serbian people, but of all those who suffered in the crimes of the Independent State of Croatia. Brnabic recalled that the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced that Serbia would finance the construction of both centres, and proposed the formation of a joint team to accelerate it.
"If our two governments do not complete this important task now, it is quite certain that no one else will," said the National Assembly Speaker.
Speaking about furthering cooperation, Brnabic stressed the need to deepen relations, especially in the field of infrastructure, as well as the importance of unity in challenging times.
"We must devote full attention to unity and to ensure that the people of Republic of Srpska always feel safe and supported by their motherland," Brnabic stressed.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Nenad Stevandic stressed that mutual support and unity are crucial in the contemporary geopolitical circumstances.
"The only certainty in these uncertain times is that we will not abandon each other. The Republic of Srpska sees its security and support in the Republic of Serbia," said Stevandic.
He stressed that the relations of the Serbian people have never been more filled with joint projects and mutual care, emphasising the importance of the culture of remembrance as a pledge for the future, which the memorial centres will preserve forever.
The Parliamentary Forum was co-chaired by Dusan Maric, on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and Srdjan Mazalica, on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska.
