Project Will Improve Ride Quality & Traffic Safety for the Traveling Public

Stockton - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin construction on a project that will rehabilitate deteriorating pavement along State Route 99 (SR-99) on/off ramps in Merced County.

Construction activities will include electrical work, striping and paving along sixteen SR-99 on/off ramps within the communities of Merced, Delhi and Livingston. Full ramp closures and temporary traffic detours will be required at various stages of construction for the safety of motorists and roadway workers.

Beginning Sunday, June 14, 2026, crews will work night shifts northbound from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and southbound from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The work is scheduled for approximately 55 working days - Sundays through Thursdays - with completion expected in August 2026. In addition to weekly traffic advisories and roadside message signs will be placed along the highway to alert motorists of scheduled ramp closures.

This $2.9 million project was awarded to Bay Cities Paving & Grading, Inc. (Modesto, CA), who will perform the work required. This project will improve the ride quality and enhance traffic safety for motorists along SR-99 on/off ramps.

The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
