CHICAGO -- The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and Volaris Airlines on Thursday celebrated the launch of new nonstop service between O'Hare International Airport and Hermanos Serdán International Airport in Puebla, Mexico, further expanding travel options between Chicago and Mexico.

Volaris, Chicago's largest foreign flag carrier, is operating the new route three times weekly. Flights depart O'Hare for Puebla on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, providing travelers with a new nonstop connection to one of Mexico's largest metropolitan areas and an important center of culture, tourism and industry.

"Chicago and Puebla are connected by deep family, cultural and economic ties, and this new nonstop service makes those connections easier than ever," said CDA Commissioner Michael McMurray. "We're proud to welcome this new route from Volaris as we continue expanding O'Hare's international network and strengthening Chicago's position as a leading gateway between the United States and Mexico."

CDA and Volaris marked the new service Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at O'Hare's Terminal 5. Representatives from the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce joined CDA and Volaris officials for the celebration.

"We are very excited to offer our customers this new nonstop connection between Chicago and Puebla," said Ximena Diaz, Head of East Coast Sales for Volaris Airlines. "Chicago is an incredibly important market for Volaris, and this route gives travelers an affordable and convenient new option to visit friends and family, travel for business and experience all that Puebla has to offer. We are proud to continue growing our presence at O'Hare and connecting more communities across Mexico and the United States."

The new Puebla service adds another destination to Volaris' growing network from Chicago, with six destinations from O'Hare and 10 overall from Chicago, and expands O'Hare's extensive connectivity to Mexico. The Chicago airport system offers travelers more nonstop destinations in Mexico than any other foreign country.

Puebla, located approximately 75 miles southeast of Mexico City, is the capital of the Mexican state of the same name and is known for its historic architecture, renowned culinary traditions and UNESCO-designated historic center. The new nonstop service also provides another direct link between the Chicago region's large Mexican American community and central Mexico.
