Celebrating Coral Triangle Day 2025: One Triangle, Infinite Beauty

9 June 2025 today, we join hands across the Coral Triangle and beyond to celebrate Coral Triangle Day 2025-a moment to honor not just a region, but a living, breathing global treasure.

Under this year's theme, "One Triangle, Infinite Beauty," we are reminded that the Coral Triangle is more than a geographical space. It is the heart of marine biodiversity-home to 76% of the world's coral species, more than 2,000 species of reef fish, and a vital source of life and livelihood for over 120 million people.

But the Coral Triangle's beauty lies not only in its biodiversity. It is found in the resilience of its coastal communities, the rich cultural ties that unite six nations, and the hope and determination of those working to preserve this remarkable seascape for generations to come.

This year also marks a special milestone: the 16th anniversary of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF). For sixteen years, CTI-CFF has stood as a symbol of regional collaboration, innovation, and unwavering commitment to protecting one of the most critical marine ecosystems on Earth.

To commemorate this important occasion, the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat held a Media Gathering in collaboration with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, celebrating both CTI-CFF's 16th anniversary and Coral Triangle Day 2025. The event highlighted the progress of the past years, the power of partnerships, and the crucial role of storytelling in marine conservation.

Across the Coral Triangle region, the celebration has taken many inspiring forms:

• From Indonesia, actions ranged from coral transplantation and mangrove planting in Ambon and Kupang, to educational storytelling and reef conservation activities in Pandanan, Lombok.
• In Papua New Guinea, school students, teachers, and community members in Karapi Village united for tree planting and cleanup activities.
• In the Philippines, youth camps in Pagbilao, Quezon and Capiz engaged young leaders in mangrove planting, environmental education, and climate advocacy. In Sagay City, the local youth and organizations partnered for a coastal cleanup drive.
• In the Solomon Islands, the Ministry of Fisheries led the commemoration through information booths and youth engagement, featuring a touching poetry showcase that celebrated the ocean's value.

These are just a few glimpses of the many activities taking place. Across the region, more initiatives are unfolding-from institutional efforts to personal actions-that are deeply intertwined with the Coral Triangle.
