In 2023, the National Parks Board (NParks) announced plans to rejuvenate 13 parks in southwestern Singapore and collectively link them via curated trails. Of these parks, HortPark, Labrador Nature Park and West Coast Park will be enhanced into Destination Parks - large, regional parks with thematic identities and unique features designed to attract visitors across Singapore. With these curated trails, the public can look forward to a wider variety of experiences along the Southern Ridges and West Coast, ranging from active play to tranquil nature-based interactions, as well as greater access to recreational features set amidst nature.
Public engagement on southwestern parks enhancement works completed
From 2024 to 2025, NParks conducted extensive public engagement sessions, such as focus group discussions, interviews, pop-ups and online surveys, to gather views and insights from relevant stakeholders, such as residents, park visitors and the community, on the proposed enhancement works for the 13 southwestern parks. From over 2,200 responses garnered, NParks developed a draft masterplan that was then shared with the community through pop-up booths across the 13 parks from November to December 2025. NParks engaged around 300 park visitors to seek further feedback on the draft masterplan. Following this, focus group discussions for the three Destination Parks were conducted in January 2026.
Participants engaged on the draft masterplan shared feedback to:
• Enhance accessibility and park amenities such as recreation options, toilets and shaded rest areas
• Preserve the lush greenery and tranquillity of the parks while enhancing vibrancy
• Adopt inclusive design that caters to diverse user groups and wide range of activities
Participants also responded positively to the vision for the three Destination Parks and the themed trails that will connect the 13 southwestern parks:
• West Coast Park's coastal identity continues to resonate strongly with park visitors as the recreational hub for the western region of Singapore
• HortPark's established horticulture and gardening identity aligns with community interests
• Labrador Nature Park's blend of coastal and forest landscapes is seen as a main attraction for park visitors
• The themed trails that connect the southwestern parks were well received with much enthusiasm from the community
The rejuvenation of these green spaces will contribute to the ongoing transformation of Singapore's southwestern region. This will also complement NParks' Labrador Nature Park Network, the Urban Redevelopment Authority's longer-term plans for the Greater Southern Waterfront, as well as Southern Ridges and Coast Identity Corridor. The enhancements will be phased and progressively completed - works have been completed for King's Dock Park and Pasir Panjang Park, and are ongoing at Clementi Woods Park.
