RSU Library Hosts Librarians from Throughout Oklahoma for “UnCOILed” Workshop

[Link] Rogers State University hosted the annual Community of Oklahoma Instruction Librarians (COIL) workshop Thursday, July 24, in the Stratton Taylor Library. The one-day workshop, titled "UnCOILed," featured a series of interactive workshops from librarians across the state and a keynote address from Courtney Oliphant, instruction and virtual services librarian at Oklahoma City Community College, who spoke about a new peer instruction network for academic librarians. COIL is a professional organization that promotes information literacy in Oklahoma and is a subgroup of the Oklahoma chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries. According to COIL board member and Stratton Taylor Library Director Kaitlin Crotty, the annual workshop offers opportunities for academic librarians to come together to present projects, strategies, techniques, and share their successes, while learning from each other's trials and tribulations. Librarians engage in discussion, share notes and ideas, and work together to better themselves as instruction librarians. The workshop also offers suggestions on how to engage students; how to promote library resources, services, and spaces; and how to involve themselves in their local communities on and off campus, Crotty said. More than 30 librarians from across the state and the Tulsa City County Library System were in attendance. Crotty said this is the first time Rogers State University has hosted the UnCOILed workshop. RSU Librarian Ash Latchem also is a COIL board member. For more information about the Stratton Taylor Library, visit https://www.rsu.edu/library/.
