On Saturday, August 22, CSPD and CSFD face off in the second annual Softball Showdown

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) will trade their badges and fire gear for bats and gloves during the 2026 CSPD vs. CSFD Softball Showdown. The game will be held on Saturday, August 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs' (UCCS) Mountain Lion Park, located at 600 N. Campus Heights.

This free, family-friendly competition provides CSPD and CSFD personnel an opportunity to connect with the community outside their traditional public safety roles. Community members are invited to attend, support their favorite team, and enjoy an evening of fun with Colorado Springs' first responders.

Before the teams take the field, 11-year-old cancer survivor Samantha Thannisch will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Last year, Samantha turned her courage into an opportunity to help others, raising more than $8,000 for Children's Hospital.

Community partners that help make events like this possible, and other public safety programs, will also be celebrated as Jade Loerzel, representing The Promenade Shops at Briargate, and Clyde, the UCCS mascot, will present a $642 donation to the CSPD Cadet Program. The program gives young people opportunities to learn about law enforcement, develop leadership skills and serve their community.

CSPD is grateful to CSFD, UCCS, The Promenade Shops at Briargate, SCHEELS and everyone who continues to support our first responders, youth programs and families throughout Colorado Springs.
