Passing of Burdett Sisler

April 4, 2026

Whit and I were saddened to learn of the passing of Burdett "Burd" Thomas Sisler, Canada's oldest living man and one of the world's oldest Second World War veterans.

Born in 1915 and raised in Toronto, Mr. Sisler answered the call to serve during the Second World War as a radar technician with the Canadian Armed Forces. Following the war, he continued to serve his country with dedication through three decades of work for the Canada Border Services Agency, contributing to the safety and security of Canadians and to the strong ties between neighbouring nations.

Mr. Sisler, who received the King Charles III Coronation medal, was a member of the generation that shaped modern Canada, he witnessed profound moments in history while embodying the values of service and perseverance that continue to inspire us all.

Whit and I extend heartfelt condolences to Mr. Sisler's family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May they find comfort in his remarkable legacy and in the gratitude of a country that remembers his service and his life with respect.

Mary Simon
