Hoboken to Host Historic Memorial Day Parade Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary

The City of Hoboken, the Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs, the Hoboken Historical Museum, American Legion Post 107, and the Hoboken Business Alliance announce the Hoboken Memorial Day Semiquincentennial Parade, to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary and Hoboken's longstanding Memorial Day traditions.

The parade, which is anticipated to be the largest parade in Hoboken's history, will step off on Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m. from First and Washington Street to 11th Street.

American Legion Post 107 member Joe Truglio will lead a number of bands, floats, veterans, and dignitaries, in the parade as the Grand Marshal.

"Generations of the Truglio family have served our country and community," said Post Commander John Carey. "Joe served his country during the Vietnam War, his father was a World War II veteran, and his uncles, Peter and Jack, are named on Hoboken's World War II Memorial for their service and sacrifice. There's no one more deserving than Joe to represent veterans in expressing our gratitude to those we remember today."

Some of the parade highlights will include the 63rd Army Band, the Hawthorne Caballeros, and the Rockin' Redwings, as well as themed floats carrying local veterans and dignitaries, professional entertainers including Zach Alexander, Charlie Lopez Band and Fred Lehotay & the Ragtimers, Hoboken public safety divisions, and much more.

"As we approach America's 250th anniversary, Hoboken looks forward to honoring both our nation's history and the generations of service members who have defended it," said Mayor Emily B. Jabbour. "This Memorial Day Parade is a meaningful tradition that brings our community together in remembrance and gratitude, but this year is particularly exciting as it will certainly also showcase the energy and spirit that make Hoboken so special. I invite residents and visitors of all ages to join us along Washington Street to line the route and take part in this day of reflection, celebration, and community pride."

The family-friendly, community event was organized to serve as both a solemn remembrance of those who gave their lives in service and a vibrant celebration of American history and community spirit. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to attend, bring their families, and participate in honoring the nation's history and those who have served.
