Washington, D.C.- Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued a statement welcoming the White House's introduction of a Gaza peace plan.
"I welcome the White House's unveiling of a peace plan for Gaza yesterday. Any effort that seeks to end the devastating conflict and surge assistance in Gaza, release the hostages, and chart a path toward peace deserves serious consideration.
"Like our Gulf and European partners, I am encouraged by the plan's emphasis on diplomacy, regional engagement, and a future in which both Israelis and Palestinians can enjoy security and dignity. Importantly, this plan envisions a two-state solution that reunites Gaza and the West Bank - with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace. That principle remains the cornerstone of any sustainable and just resolution to this conflict.
"There will be challenges ahead, and implementation will not be easy, but we should recognize this moment as an opportunity to turn words into action and to give hope to all those who have suffered far too long."
