City of West Hollywood Recognizes October as National Community Planning Month with a ‘Meet the Planners’ Open House on Monday, October 12

The City of West Hollywood recognizes October as National Community Planning Month. The City will host 'Meet the Planners: Coffee and Conversations with your City Planners' on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the West Hollywood City Hall Courtyard/Community Plaza, located at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard at N. Sweetzer Avenue. The drop-in open house invites community members to meet planners from the City's Current & Historic Preservation Planning, Long Range Planning, and Transportation & Mobility Divisions, learn more about how planning shapes West Hollywood, and enjoy light refreshments.

National Community Planning Month is observed each October to highlight how planning shapes the places where people live, work, travel, and gather. This observance reinforces the need for community understanding and involvement in the planning process to create safer, more resilient, and more prosperous communities.

At the City of West Hollywood, City planners work within the Community Development Department and Department of Public Works across multiple divisions to translate adopted policies and community priorities into long range plans, development review, historic preservation efforts, housing and sustainability initiatives, and transportation and mobility programs.

  • The Current & Historic Preservation Planning Division reviews development applications, administers zoning and subdivision regulations, provides public information about planning matters, supports historic preservation efforts, and performs environmental review pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
  • The Long Range Planning Division develops and implements policy related to housing, land use, sustainability, and other strategic planning initiatives.
  • The Transportation & Mobility Division plans, manages, and operates programs that support safe, efficient, and equitable travel throughout West Hollywood, including daily transportation services and long-term initiatives designed to improve safety and expand mobility options for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Planning affects everyday life in West Hollywood, from housing and historic resources to streets, public spaces, and the ways people move around the City. Meet the Planners is designed as an informal opportunity to meet City planners, learn how planning processes work, ask general questions, and find out how to participate in current and future City planning efforts. Staff in attendance will also direct attendees to resources such as project webpages and established public engagement portals and hearing processes for project-specific information and feedback opportunities.
