Kaleida Health champions breast health during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

We're proud to recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Although important all year-round, October is an essential time to reaffirm our commitment to supporting breast health for all in Western New York, and working to bring awareness to screening, education and services in our community.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. But when caught in its earliest, localized stages, the five-year relative survival rate for breast cancer is 99% - that makes awareness, access and education so vital.

Through comprehensive care, community outreach and partnerships with trusted local OBGYN providers through General Physician, PC Women's Health, Queen City OBGYN and Oishei Children's Hospital's (OCH) OBGYN Clinics, Kaleida Health ensures that early detection, education and compassionate care are accessible to everyone.

Regular OBGYN care for breast cancer risk & detection

Routine visits to OBGYN providers play a crucial role in breast health. Local practices such as Queen City OBGYN, General Physician, PC Women's Health and OCH OBGYN offer:

  • Annual Screenings: Regular breast exams and discussions about personal and family medical histories.
  • Preventive Education: Information on lifestyle choices, genetic risk factors and the importance of early detection and self-exams.
  • Referral Services: Guidance to specialized care within the Kaleida Health network when needed.

Our partnerships across Western New York ensure that patients receive coordinated care, combining the expertise of OBGYN providers with the specialized services offered by Kaleida Health!

The results from our 3D exams are more accurate, supporting the fight against breast cancer for women of all ages and breast densities.
  • Breast Biopsy:A biopsy offers investigative testing for abnormalities detected during mammograms or ultrasounds.

  • Infusion:We offer infusion centers across the region if chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy is right for you.
  • Radiation Therapy:We're proud to offer the latest, most state-of-the-art radiation treatments available, maximizing the elimination of cancer cells while minimizing the risk of side effects and chance of recurrence.

  • Breast Reconstruction: Collaborative care with experienced plastic surgeons provide personalized options for patients undergoing mastectomy.

These services are designed to provide comprehensive care, ensuring patients receive the support they need at every stage of their treatment.
