Artificial intelligence and digital storytelling were key topics of this year's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) National Leadership Assembly in Charlotte, N.C., where Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg was making its first-ever appearance.

Celeste Flick, club president, and Natalie Miller, club vice president, represented Bloomsburg's PRSSA chapter for the first time at the national conference. There, they participated in leadership workshops, panel discussions, and networking events with top public relations professionals from agencies, corporations, and nonprofit organizations.

"Celeste and I were able to speak to different members of the International Committee, as well as different PRSA professionals," Miller said. "They were able to help us learn more about the ins and outs of the Leadership Assembly, in addition to breaking out into the public relations world."

Miller added they learned from each of the speakers and fellow PRSSA members across the country - lessons they say they will apply in their future internships and careers. In addition, they took advantage of meeting other researchers, learned about novel research, and shared information. They said the conference delved into what PRSSA trends students should watch in 2025. Industry experts explained that artificial intelligence and digital storytelling are reshaping public relations, and students who master these skills will have a competitive edge.

"Learning about these trends now gives me a head start in adapting to the industry's evolution," said Flick, adding that learning about digital strategies and emerging platforms was eye-opening.

One of the highlights for Miller was the keynote address from DEI in public relations.

"I was able to learn about how to utilize and embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion into Bloomsburg's PRSSA chapter, as well into my everyday life," said Miller, adding that a diverse and inclusive environment establishes a sense of belonging among members, making them feel more connected and supported.

According to Miller, the PRSSA National Leadership Assembly is a vital steppingstone for students looking to make an impact in public relations. From this experience, Flick says Bloomsburg's PRSSA Club will continue to establish itself as a leader among student organizations dedicated to public relations and strategic communication.
