The Washington County Superior Court imposed a deferred sentence today for a former psychotherapist, Amy L. Siegel (a.k.a. Amy S. Lang), 49, of Moretown, Vermont, for a felony Medicaid fraud conviction. The charges resulted from Ms. Siegel admitting to falsely billing the State for over $4,000 dollars of treatment services that had not been provided. The matter was jointly investigated by the Attorney General's Office Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit (MFRAU) and the Department of Vermont Health Access Special Investigations Unit (DVHA-SIU).
After a contested sentencing hearing, the Court, Judge Michael Kainen presiding, deferred sentencing for five years, during which time Ms. Siegel must abide by terms of probation and not engage in psychotherapy practice. Ms. Siegel must also pay $4,551.62 in restitution for 48 fraudulent claims submitted in association with a patient's treatment that she did not provide. If Ms. Siegel complies with these terms, the Court could subsequently vacate her conviction.
