At-Large Community Nominates Justine Chew as Next ICANN Board Director

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) today announced that the At-Large community has nominated Justine Chew to serve on ICANN's Board of Directors. She is expected to begin her three-year term at the end of ICANN's next Annual General Meeting, ICANN87, on 22 October 2026. Chew succeeds León Felipe Sánchez Ambía, who has served in this role occupying Seat 15 on ICANN's Board since 3 November 2017.

Justine Chew is an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, practicing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has been participating in ICANN since 2012 and is actively engaged in many working groups. Chew currently serves as a Vice Chair of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), as ALAC liaison to the Generic Names Supporting Organization, and as an ALAC member selected by the Asian, Australasian and Pacific Islands Regional At-Large Organization.

Chew was nominated to the ICANN Board through election by the At-Large community. The At-Large community's ICANN Board director selection process included a six-month effort that concluded on 19 February 2026. Four Expressions of Interest for the position were received, all of which were deemed eligible. The candidates were Sébastien Bachollet, Justine Chew, Maureen Hilyard, and Rafael "Lito" Ibarra. Before the election, the At-Large community was given several opportunities to ask questions of the finalists, both orally and in writing, to make an informed choice.

The final nomination was made by the 15 members of the At-Large Advisory Committee and the five Regional At-Large Organization chairs. According to the ICANN Bylaws, the nomination will now be sent to the Empowered Community for the formal appointment of the director.
