Clinton Township man bound over for trial for allegedly strangling his aunt

Mount Clemens, MI - Today, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido's office announces that a 20-year-old Clinton Township man was bound over for trial for second-degree murder for allegedly strangling his aunt in her Clinton Township apartment.

On July 24, 2025, a preliminary exam for Jayden Armez Shazier was held before 41B Clinton Township District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo, Jr. Assistant Prosecutor Anthony Sorentino conducted the exam. Upon conclusion of the exam, Judge Femminineo determined there was enough evidence to move forward with a trial on the following charge:

  • Homicide -2nd Degree, a felony punishable for life or any number of years.

Shazier was remanded to jail with a $5 million dollar bond, his next court date will be on August 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Richard Caretti in the Macomb County Circuit Court, Mount Clemens, MI.

On the morning of March 18, 2025, it is alleged that Jayden Shazier came to the apartment of his aunt, Monique Shazier. Monique was home that morning preparing for a therapy appointment at 2 pm from which she never appeared. At approximately 6pm, Monique's sister and niece conducted a welfare check at Monique's apartment and found Monique deceased on the floor. A substantial amount of circumstantial evidence allegedly places Jayden Shazier on the scene at the time of Monique's death. Jayden's alleged conduct after the time of Monique's death was also compelling enough to bind over the matter for trial.

"Good old fashioned police work was able to obtain the evidence necessary to enable our office to pursue justice for Monique, and her family," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office represents the people of Macomb County. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan. All defendants accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
