BLM Seeks Volunteer Camp Hosts for Northern California Campgrounds

SUSANVILLE, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management is recruiting volunteer camp hosts for two popular campgrounds in Northern California for the 2026 recreation seasons.

Camp hosts enjoy the opportunity to live and work in beautiful public land settings while providing valuable visitor services. The BLM provides a site with all hookups for an RV or camp trailer. Hosts may receive a small stipend to help with living expenses. Duties include greeting visitors, providing information, and completing light maintenance.

North Eagle Lake Campground needs a host from May 15 - November 15. Located along County Road A1 about 30 miles north of Susanville, this 20-site developed campground sits near the shores of Eagle Lake. The site offers potable water, vault toilets, and accommodates RVs up to 35 feet. The position runs through the onset of winter weather. A split summer/fall season could also be arranged for multiple hosts.

Pit River Campground requires a host from April 1 - October 31. This intimate eight-site campground is located five miles east of Fall River Mills along State Route 299 in eastern Shasta County. The facility features a group site, kayak launch, and an accessible fishing pier in a scenic riverside setting. The position runs through the onset of winter weather. A split summer/fall season could also be arranged for multiple hosts.

Those interested in the North Eagle Lake position should contact Stan Bales at the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office, 530-257-0456 or [email protected]. Information on the Pit River opportunity is available from the Applegate Field Office, 530-279-6101 or by emailing Adam Butler at [email protected].
