Barnes & Noble Reopens in Clarendon Crossing04/29/2026

Author Sam Kean to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Reopening at 10AM on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026

Arlington, VA - April 29, 2026 - Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the grand reopening of its Arlington, VA bookstore on Wednesday, May 6th in The Crossing Clarendon shopping center, just outside Washington, DC.

The store has been fully remodeled and reimagined, with bright new fixtures, curated displays, and the cozy layout customers have come to love. It will now offer nearly 14,000 square feet of books, toys, games, magazines, gift items and more. The store is located on the upper level of the space it previously occupied in The Crossing Clarendon (2800 Clarendon Blvd #2000, Arlington, VA 22201), next to Sephora.

The new Barnes & Noble bookstore will officially open to the public at 10AM eastern time on Wednesday May 6th, with local author Sam Kean cutting the ribbon and signing copies of his most recent historical exploration, Dinner with King Tut: How Rogue Archaeologists Are Recreating the Signs, Sounds, Smells and Tastes of Lost Civilizations.

The store in Arlington is one of two new Barnes & Noble locations opening today, with another new store opening on the opposite coast, in Seattle, WA. The Clarendon location joins recently opened DC area Barnes & Noble stores in Georgetown and F Street and is one of seven new stores to have opened in Virgina over the last several years.

Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between May 6th and 10th. Customers who are not yet Members are encouraged to sign up and start earning stamps and rewards right away.

Everyone who visits the new Clarendon Barnes & Noble during the grand opening will have access to exclusive deals, like $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies.

James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble, said of the reopening of the Clarendon store, "Today we celebrate the reopening of our wonderful Clarendon store, nearly one year after its closing. We are delighted to welcome our customers back to enjoy this beautiful new store. This marks one of four Barnes & Noble store openings this month."

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers.

Having fallen below 600 locations as recently as 2023, it now has over 700 bookstores. In 2025, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller will open over 60 new bookstores in 2026.

Store Manager Shawn Marshall, who also opened the new Barnes & Noble in Manassas in 2024, said, "We were a core part of the community in Clarendon, so it's been fun to feel the excitement from our readers and neighbors as we get ready to reopen. It's thrilling to open another new store with fresh fixtures, amazing assortment, and a thoughtful, cohesive layout and we're looking forward to welcoming everyone back just in time for summer reading season."
