Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will participate in the Nordic-Baltic Nuclear Investment Summit, an international conference held in Stockholm on 7 October 2025, focusing on the promotion of new nuclear energy in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region.

The event is a high-level meeting jointly organized by Sweden and Finland, where Minister Sari Multala will serve as one of the hosts on behalf of the Finnish Government. On the Swedish side, the host of the meeting is Minister for Energy, Business and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch.

During the summit, Minister Sari Multala will also hold bilateral meetings with Minister Ebba Busch, as well as Minister for Climate and the Environment Romina Pourmokhtari.

"The high-level nuclear energy meeting organized together with Sweden brings together all the key actors whose efforts are crucial in advancing nuclear energy investments. In total, more than 80 participants will take part, representing the entire value chain of the nuclear energy sector. Finland aims to reach investment decisions on new nuclear power projects during the current government term. At the meeting, we will present Finland's expertise and long-term efforts to promote nuclear power investments, including the reform of nuclear energy legislation and the nuclear energy financing study," says Minister of the Environment and Climate Sari Multala.

The summit is a joint initiative by the two countries to launch an international dialogue aimed at bringing the relevant actors on board in the efforts to accelerate the development of nuclear energy. The meeting will focus on new and emerging business and investment opportunities related to nuclear energy, especially in the Nordic countries and the Baltic Sea region.

In addition to ministers from neighbouring countries, among the invitees are international owners of nuclear energy, CEOs of companies across the nuclear value chain, potential investors and financiers, and representatives of international organisations. Ministerial-level participation is confirmed from Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Lithuania.

For Finland and Sweden, the conference represents a milestone in their efforts to advance the global goal of tripling nuclear energy production by 2050. Both countries are currently engaged in intensive legislative work to improve and streamline their statutes and licence procedures related to nuclear power - without compromising the principle of 'Safety First'. Smooth licence procedures provide a solid foundation for companies wishing to invest in nuclear energy.

This is a key factor enabling the rapid construction of new nuclear power and the introduction of innovative technologies, and it can also accelerate the transition to zero-emission heat production alongside traditional electricity production.
