Your City at Work: From the Mayor's Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

MAYOR'S UPDATES

• Announcing More Care for Children and Families in Stamford: This week, I joined Governor Lamont and the Stamford Health team to celebrate two important milestones for children and families across Connecticut: the opening of Stamford Health's new Bennett Child & Adolescent. EmPATH, which stands for Emergency Psychiatry Assessment, Treatment, and Healing, is an innovative unit which will provide children and adolescents experiencing a behavioral health crisis with a calming, therapeutic environment where they can receive specialized care and support when they need it most. This EmPATH Unit is the first of its kind in the state, and we're thrilled it is here in Stamford.

• New State Funding Secured for Local Bridges: The City of Stamford will receive $3.7 million from Connecticut Department of Transportation to rehabilitate the West Broad Street Bridge over the Rippowam River. Located along one of our busiest downtown corridors, this bridge is a vital connection for our community, and this funding will help us continue making critical infrastructure investments that improve roadway safety and keep Stamford moving.
• Summer Fun in Scalzi: Last Friday, I visited students participating in the Pathfinders Adventure Camp and campers who stopped by the Salvation Army Book giveaway. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who make these programs possible, giving children opportunities to learn, make new friendships, and create lasting memories all summer long.
• Peruvian Independence Day Celebration: Last Sunday, it was wonderful to celebrate Peruvian Independence Day with the Peruvian American Community Center of Connecticut! We raised the Peruvian flag and recognized Stamford's vibrant Peruvian American community. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate!

• Stay HUSKY Covered: The City of Stamford is partnering with Stamford Health to identify at-risk HUSKY D recipients and assist them in maintaining their health care eligibility before the new rules take effect early next year. This work is being done alongside local health care providers, nonprofit social services agencies, and housing authorities to ensure that we reach individuals and families that need support. There will be more updates in the near future, but in the meantime if you have questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

• School Construction Updates: Stamford residents that you can stay up-to-date with all the school enhancement projects across Stamford Public Schools, visit: spsbuilds.com.

• Mill Road Bridge Replacement Project Public Meeting: On Tuesday, August 4 at 7:00pm, the City of Stamford Engineering Department and Bridge Design Consultant will host a virtual public meeting regarding the Mill Road Bridge replacement project. More information, including the meeting link, can be found here.
• Beach Permits: Beach permits are now available for purchase online, by mail, or in person at the Cashiering and Permitting Department. Residents are encouraged to buy their permits early rather than wait until beach season! Permits are required beginning on May 1st through September 30th. Click here to purchase.

• Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.

  RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

• Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, visit here.

Employment Opportunities in the City

Traffic

• Eversource Cable Modernization Project: Eversource has started construction to replace two of its underground cables from 1968. To learn more and sign up for construction updates visit here.
• Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.
