UWSP at Marshfield announces auditions for spring production “The Amish Project”

The Campus Community Players at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield will host auditions for the upcoming spring production of "The Amish Project" (Ensemble Version) next week.

Auditions will be held in the Black Box Theatre on the UWSP at Marshfield campus, 2000 W. 5th St., Marshfield, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, and Tuesday, Feb. 24. Callbacks, if needed, will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

The audition process will begin with introductions in front of the group and sharing a short joke, story or brief monologue of the auditioner's choice. There may also be a short group warm-up exercise. Selected portions of the script will be provided, and participants will read in small groups. Please be prepared to read more than one character. Auditioning participants should bring their calendars to complete a conflict sheet which should include work commitments, school activities, vacation plans and more.

Written by Jessica Dickey, this play is a fictional exploration of a real event that occurred on Oct. 2, 2006, in Nickel Pines, Pa., where a shooting took place at a schoolhouse in an Amish community and the path of forgiveness and compassion forged in its wake.

The cast requires a minimum of 7 performers, including two younger female roles (ages 6 and 14), a 16-year-old Hispanic female role and adults ranging in age from their 30s to 50s for both males and females. There may be an option to extend the cast somewhat including males and females of all ages.

Performances of "The Amish Project" are scheduled for April 23-26, 2026, in the UWSP at Marshfield Helen Connor Laird Building. Tickets are $20 and will be available in the near future at tickets.uwsp.edu.

The show will be directed by Donna Thompson, a Marshfield native who has been heavily involved in theatre, both on and off the stage, for more than 20 years. Her most recent directorial work includes "Fiddler on the Roof Jr," "The Odd Couple: Female Version" and "Come From Away."
