Albany, NY - "Working people were energized and engaged throughout this election season, and tonight's victory for Cait Conley, elected to represent New York's 17th Congressional District, demonstrates the extraordinary power of union members when they stand together and put their collective strength into action," said Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO.
"Labor's power was on full display as our members came together to educate and mobilize voters, ensuring that Cait emerged as the winner.
"Together, we celebrate her victory and look forward to working with her to advance the issues that matter most to working people.
"We've always known that a robust labor-to-labor program is what wins elections. The New York State AFL-CIO coordinated with our affiliates and labor bodies to activate nearly one thousand volunteers for rallies, labor walks, and phone banks. I'm incredibly proud of our affiliated unions, whose more than 150,000 members in CD 17 made more than 175,000 knocks, calls, and texts in a full-scale campaign that also included 100,000 mail pieces. These were not just campaign activities; they represented thousands of hours of hard work, countless conversations, and an extraordinary commitment by working people to make their voices heard.
"But what truly sets us apart is the enthusiasm and determination of our members, retirees, and their families," Cilento said. "It's their unwavering commitment that makes our movement Union Strong. We look forward to working with Cait Conley to continue our fight to improve the quality of life for all working people in New York."
