A meeting took place in Yakutsk between Daryana Maksimova, Deputy Executive Director of the Northern Forum, and representatives of the Obruchev Foundation: Tatyana Sergeevna Obrucheva, Head of the Foundation and lecturer at St. Petersburg Mining University, and Ekaterina Klavdievna Abrosimova, geologist at the Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute (VSEGEI) and representative of the Obruchev Foundation.
The delegation of the Obruchev Foundation was in the republic to participate in a conference commemorating the 135th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Vladimirovich Obruchev, an outstanding Soviet geologist and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Tatyana Sergeevna Obrucheva is the daughter of Sergei Obruchev and the granddaughter of Academician Vladimir Afanasyevich Obruchev, the founder of the Siberian geological school and author of fundamental works on the geology of Siberia and Central Asia.
Sergei Vladimirovich Obruchev was one of the first researchers to systematically study the geology of Yakutia and Kolyma. He conducted fieldwork, analyzed rock compositions, and participated in mineral exploration. His research largely laid the foundation for the subsequent development of natural resources in Northeast Russia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of implementing an interregional project - a historical and geological expedition following the routes of the Obruchevs' expeditions in Siberia. The project aims to combine research, educational, and outreach potential while preserving the memory of the scientists' contributions to the development of Russian geology.
The Northern Forum, which unites northern regions, supports initiatives focused on preserving scientific heritage and developing historical and educational routes. The agreements reached could serve as a starting point for preparing the expedition program and engaging partners from among the regions, as well as scientific, educational, and public organizations.
