Precautionary Boil Advisory for 36th Street NE Area

The City of Cedar Rapids is issuing a Precautionary Boil Advisory to customers within the boundary listed below to boil water used for personal consumption.

Affected addresses are surrounding the 800 block of 36th St NE. A rupture in a water main caused dirt and gravel to enter the main, which has created potential for bacteria contamination to occur.

Affected addresses:

  • 36th Street NE: 601, 610, 613, 617, 618, 620, 621, 624, 625, 628, 631, 636, 638, 639, 644, 645, 655, 700, 701, 708, 709, 711, 714, 717, 720, 721, 728, 729, 734, 735, 739, 740, 745, 800, 803, 804, 806, 811, 815, 816, 819, 822, 826, 829, 834, 835, 837
  • 3600 E Avenue NE

A detailed map outlining the area can be found using the attached link.

We advise residents in the affected area to follow these steps for added protection against potential bacteria contamination in water used for consumption only:

  1. Bring water to a boil,
  2. Let it rapidly boil for at least 1 minute,
  3. Allow to cool completely before consuming.

WATER IN ALL OTHER AREAS IS SAFE TO CONSUME.

Repairs to the system are underway. The area of the break will be repaired, flushed and follow-up testing will occur. Chlorine levels will be monitored, and two consecutive sets of bacteria samples will be collected for analysis. Next anticipated update by noon Friday, September 11 at which time this order will be either lifted or extended.
