Stefanik Announces Major Border Security Investment in Rouses Point

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Republican Leadership Congresswoman Elise Stefanik announced a $47.7 million construction contract to modernize and expand the Land Port of Entry at Rouses Point, New York, creating many jobs for the region. The General Services Administration (GSA) awarded the contract to Murnane Building Contractors, Inc., a New York-based company.

"Today, I am honored to announce a $47.7 million construction contract to modernize and expand the Land Port of Entry at Rouses Point, New York," said Chairwoman Stefanik. "This investment, awarded by the General Services Administration (GSA) will enhance U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) ability to conduct inspections of rail, vehicle, and pedestrian traffic. It will also create many jobs for the region."

BACKGROUND:

The new port facility will replace the outdated crossing located just south of the Northern Border and will create jobs and increase border security, a critical issue for Stefanik and the Trump administration. Specifically, the upgraded port will enhance U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) ability to conduct inspections of rail, vehicle, and pedestrian traffic.

The Rouses Point crossing is one of the few international rail passenger entry points in the country, and the only location where rail, pedestrian, and vehicular inspections occur together. Stefanik has been a leader in championing federal investment in Northern Border security to protect New York families and communities.
