December 15, 2025

December 15, 2025 - State Senator Vincent Hughes, Senate Democratic Appropriations Chair, announced over $1.5M in apprenticeship grants for Philadelphia-area organizations. The grants were awarded by the Department of Labor and Industry, as part of a nearly $4.2 million total investment in advanced manufacturing registered pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs.

"Investing in workforce development and apprenticeship opportunities means strengthening our local economy and opening doors," said Senator Hughes. "We know that apprenticeships can lead to good paying, family sustaining jobs. These are important investments that will unlock careers and new opportunities for young people."

The Supporting PA's Advanced Manufacturing Sector grants are intended to support the development and expansion of registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs that serve counties throughout Pennsylvania.

Grants awarded in Senator Hughes' district include:

  • The Philadelphia Academies, Inc. - The grant will support the development of a new advanced manufacturing pre-apprenticeship program serving Philadelphia.
  • Philadelphia Works, Inc. - The grant will support the development of a new welding apprenticeship program serving Philadelphia.
  • Community College of Philadelphia - The grant will support the development of a new industrial maintenance mechanic apprenticeship program serving Philadelphia. A separate grant will be used to expand CCP's industrial maintenance mechanic pre-apprenticeship program that serves Philadelphia.
  • Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters' Technical Centers - The grant will help expand their millwright apprenticeship program, that features training centers in Lebanon, Philadelphia, and Allegheny counties.
