Support for the chemicals industry

Support for the chemicals industry

10.7.2025

Priority question for written answer P-002823/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Mihai Tudose (S&D)

The Commission has presented an action plan for the chemicals industry with a view to strengthening its competitiveness and modernising this, the EU's fourth largest production industry, which directly employs 1.2 million people.

I welcome the idea of creating a Critical Chemical Alliance to address the risks of capacity closures in the sector. I support the plan to ease the administrative burden and look forward to the Action Plan for Affordable Energy.

Is the Commission considering, as part of this new approach to a key industrial sector, stimulating new or existing production capacities in EU regions endowed with raw materials, like those in Romania, which has substantial natural gas resources?
