Gov. Evers visits UW-Oshkosh as part of annual back-to-school tour

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers was in Oshkosh this morning, stopping at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh as part of his annual back-to-school tour.
Evers arrived at the north entrance to Clow Academic Complex and made his way to a couple of nearby classrooms, meeting with instructors and students.

He met with Kimberly Oamek, assistant professor, who was teaching the course, Instruction, Assessment and the Diverse Learner. Within the class a small group table discussion prompted teacher-education students to identify and share with classmates a learning context (in or out of school) where they have felt successful, supported and/or appropriately challenged.
Next, he met with Kristi Wilkum, a Communication Studies professor who was teaching Intercultural Communication.
Evers had a brief opportunity to engage with students around intercultural communication and how individuals understand and communicate across different cultural experiences and perspectives.
Evers also had the chance to visit with Evan Williams, assistant professor of philosophy, who was teaching a course on Biomedical Ethics.
Discussion in Williams' class centered on ethics and "whether good ends can ever justify the use of bad means."

Investing in the Universities of Wisconsin
During Evers' visit, the governor highlighted his work to secure the largest increase for the Universities of Wisconsin in nearly two decades with a $250 million investment for the UW System in the 2025-27 Biennial Budget including:
• Over $100 million to support UW System campuses statewide, helping to stabilize the system after campus closures, layoffs and program cuts and consolidations and ensure UW institutions remain economic and workforce hubs in communities across the state;
• $54 million to help retain and recuit faculty and staff in high-demand fields of study to ensure UW System instituions remain competitive, world-class institutions
• Nearly $90 million to increase wages for UW System workers, including faculty and staff.
Capital projects get boost
Gov. Evers fought to secure over $1.2 billion in the 2025-27 Capital Budget for critical infrastructure projects on UW campuses statewide, including Polk Library on the UW-Oshkosh campus.
