Folsom, Calif. - (Sept. 24, 2025) - For those harboring any doubt, it really is possible to help kids develop a positive relationship with money. So writes SAFE Credit Union's Susan Burns in her regularly appearing Comstock's Magazine "Financial Avoidant" column.
Burns' take stresses the importance of speaking honestly about finances with children, as opposed to creating a "bubble of silence" around money - the way her own parents did while she was growing up.
In her article, along with several tips, Burns encourages helping kids understand how their own values and priorities play a major role in how they will eventually manage their own money.
"Making it fun, real and relevant will help them form a secure attachment style to money," says Burns, a senior design and communication specialist for the credit union.
Columnist and SAFE Credit Union Senior Design and Communications Specialist.
For more, listen to Burns discuss how she overcomes and writes about her own tendencies to avoid money on the next SAFE Credit Union Perfect Cents Podcast episode with host SAFE Credit Union Community Development Specialist Alex Becerra.
