Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Be Held for Reopening of Bennett Park

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, to celebrate the reopening of Bennett Park (5930 Burruss Mill Road) in northeast Forsyth County following a large-scale renovation project.

"Bennett Park is the oldest facility in the Forsyth County Parks & Recreation inventory," said Parks & Recreation Director Kirk Franz. "We are excited to complete this renovation project and bring new life to a park that has served thousands of participants over the decades, as well as additional amenities to better serve the surrounding community."

The renovations to Bennett Park include:

  • Two multi-purpose artificial turf rectangle fields
  • Three baseball-softball fields
  • Two full-court outdoor basketball courts
  • Batting cages
  • Picnic pavilions
  • New community building
  • Playground
  • Paved and nature trails
  • Expanded parking

The ceremony will feature remarks from elected officials, Parks & Recreation staff, community leaders and more.

"This event is about honoring Bennett Park's history while preparing it for the future," said District 4 Commissioner Mendy Moore. "This renovation ensures that families, athletes and neighbors will continue to gather here for decades to come. It's a reinvestment in the Forsyth County community, and we're proud to reopen a park that means so much to so many."

Funding for the project was provided by an Improving Neighborhood Outcomes in Disproportionately Impacted Communities Grant, which was awarded to the County in 2023, in the amount of $2.2 million to aid in renovations and improvements. Bennett Park is one of 142 projects in Georgia to receive funding from the grant. The total renovation project cost was $25.8 million with the remaining cost coming from the various funding sources including SPLOST, Capital Outlay and Impact Fees among others.

The Forsyth County Department of Parks & Recreation operates and maintains 30 parks in Forsyth County and works to enrich the community by providing safe, clean and inclusive parks and recreation.
