At the request of District Attorney General Glenn Funk, MNPD detectives are investigating Wednesday afternoon's officer-involved shooting by a member of the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office. No one was struck by the gunfire, which occurred outside Eddie's Hardware Market & Deli at 8898 Highway 70 in Davidson County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office had been looking for Mark Boone, 57, who was wanted on outstanding warrants. A deputy received information that Boone was at the market and arrived there in a marked sheriff's vehicle shortly after 4 p.m. The deputy pulled in behind Boone's Jeep Compass and approached it on the passenger side. Boone ignored commands to exit the Jeep. Instead, he put it into drive, turned the wheel sharply to the right, and accelerated. The deputy stepped back from the vehicle and fired, striking the rear passenger tire.
Boone continued driving inbound on Highway 70 with the deputy in pursuit. With the tire practically gone, Boone stopped at the Wendy's restaurant at 7642 Highway 70. Boone ran across the street and was apprehended by the deputy.
Boone was taken to the Dickson County Jail for the outstanding warrants. Charges related to his actions in Davidson County are anticipated.
Once complete, the full investigative file concerning the events in Davidson County will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review.
