Georgia DOT seeks public input on SR 144 Spur new bridge project
RICHMOND HILL, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is seeking public comment on a proposed solution to address the severe eroding embankment on State Route (SR) 144 Spur with a new bridge to access Fort McAllister State Park and surrounding neighborhoods in Bryan County.

Georgia DOT is hosting an in-person Public Information Open House (PIOH) on March 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bryan County Administrative Complex, 66 Captain Matthew Freeman Drive. There will not be a formal presentation, but everyone is invited to drop by to view plans, ask questions and give feedback.

This project proposes replacing the current eroding roadway embankment on SR 144 Spur with a new bridge, just west of Fort McAllister State Park. The roadway has been affected by erosion from the Ogeechee River. The project would maintain traffic while constructing a modern design bridge just south of the current roadway.

Georgia DOT invites you to review the materials presented on the webpage and submit comments. Comments may be submitted during the event or using any of the following methods by Thursday, March 26, 2026.
