3 February 2026, Brussels - As part of his working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a series of meetings with Members of the European Parliament.
The head of Moldovan diplomacy met with Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu and Nicolae Ștefănuță; the Chairs of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence, and the European Democracy Shield, David McAllister, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann and Nathalie Loiseau; the Co-President of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, Sergey Lagodinsky; as well as MEPs Petras Auštrevičius, Dan Barna, Sven Mikser and Eugen Tomac.
Discussions focused on the Republic of Moldova's priorities in the European integration process, with an emphasis on continuing reforms and making full use of the support provided by the European Union, as well as the importance of deepening political and institutional cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed appreciation for the European Parliament's consistent support for the Republic of Moldova's European path and for its assistance in strengthening the country's resilience in the context of the challenges generated by the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine.
"I thanked the Members of the European Parliament for their constant support for our country - from backing reforms to their essential contribution to the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova. This support enables us to strengthen state institutions, develop the economy, and move faster in aligning with European standards," said Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi.
During the discussions, participants welcomed the opening in 2025 of the European Parliament Office in Chișinău as a strong signal of closer ties. Mihai Popșoi underlined that this presence strengthens the link between Moldovan citizens and the institutions of the European Union and reflects a Republic of Moldova that is increasingly present in the European space.
For their part, the Members of the European Parliament welcomed the progress achieved by the Republic of Moldova and reaffirmed the European Parliament's support, which in 2025 materialised in the largest European Union support package provided to the Republic of Moldova since independence. They also encouraged the Moldovan authorities to maintain the pace of implementing the measures necessary for accession to the European Union.
