Worcestershire residents encouraged to check their gigabit broadband availability

Since March 2026, the service has enabled people in England and Wales to quickly check the availability of gigabit-capable broadband at their address and find out whether their property is included in planned Project Gigabit upgrades.

This comes as Worcestershire continues to make strong progress in improving digital connectivity. As of July 2026, more than 270,000 homes and businesses across the county can now access gigabit-capable broadband, representing nearly 89% coverage.

Project Gigabit is helping to extend fast, reliable broadband to some of Worcestershire's hardest-to-reach communities through a £41 million contract between Building Digital UK (BDUK) and Openreach. The programme is expected to bring gigabit-capable broadband to more than 20,000 additional premises across the county.

Councillor Adam Kent, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Finance, Corporate Services and Business at Worcestershire County Council, said: "We have seen excellent progress in expanding gigabit broadband coverage across Worcestershire, with nearly 89% of premises now able to access gigabit-capable services. However, many residents may not be aware of what is available at their address or whether they are included in future upgrade plans."

"The new GOV.UK checker provides a simple way for residents and businesses to find out what broadband improvements are planned for their area and to keep informed about the rollout of this vital infrastructure."

Worcestershire County Council continues to work closely with BDUK and Openreach to support the delivery of Project Gigabit and help improve connectivity across the county.

Worcestershire is expected to reach over 95% gigabit-capable broadband coverage by 2030.

Residents and businesses can check their broadband availability and Project Gigabit status by visiting: www.worcestershire.gov.uk/broadband

Users will be asked to enter their address details to view information about current gigabit broadband availability and any planned upgrades.
