Warner, Kaine Respond to Senate GOP Disarray

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) released the following statement after Senate Republicans pulled consideration of their partisan budget bill amid internal Republican disagreements and delayed further action until after the Memorial Day work period:

"Senate Republicans couldn't even hold their own conference together long enough to bring this partisan bill to the floor before recess. After weeks of rushing ahead with backroom negotiations, Republicans are now openly fighting amongst themselves over a bill that would pour billions more into President Trump's extreme immigration agenda and green-light nearly $1.8 billion in taxpayer money for a slush fund to reward Trump's political allies - including those who violently attacked law enforcement on January 6 - as law-abiding, hardworking families across the country struggle to afford groceries, housing, health care, and energy bills.

"Republicans may have dropped their plan to force taxpayers to fund President Trump's ballroom, but the core of this legislation remains the same: more blank checks, more partisan chaos, and more giveaways designed to benefit Donald Trump and his political allies instead of helping working Americans.

"This delay does not change what's at stake. We will continue to oppose this reckless legislation and keep fighting for policies that lower costs, strengthen communities, and put Virginia families ahead of political favors and self-dealing."
