Salesforce (CRM) stock returned 42.8% between July 21 and October 19, 2026, against 2.7% for the S&P 500. The advance turned out to be about a return to faster growth. The biggest one-day gain of the window occurred on August 27. That move came the day after management reported faster growth in revenue under contract and said annual recurring revenue from its AI and data business was about to cross $4 billion. So how much of that was already public before July 21?
Salesforce's Faster Growth Was Public Before July
Most of it was, though the data looked far less convincing at the time. During the fiscal Q1 2026 call on May 28, 2025, management said annual recurring revenue from Data Cloud and AI had grown more than 120% from a year earlier. That is the same AI and data business management reported on more than a year later in August.
Revenue under contract established the baseline. Management reported revenue under contract of $29.4 billion during the fiscal Q2 2026 call held on September 3, 2025. That figure was up 11% from a year earlier, setting a pace the August results would eventually beat.
Subsequent regulatory filings showed revenue itself picking up. Revenue grew 13.3% in the quarter ended April 2026, compared with 7.6% in the quarter ended April 2025. These are reported figures, which can include revenue from businesses Salesforce bought. The company filed that report on May 28, 2026, almost two months before the window opened.
Investors acting on those signs would have been buying a falling stock. The shares lost 22.3% in the six months before July 21, making the signs look clearer now than they did to a buyer then.
What Did Salesforce's August Results Show?
They showed faster growth in revenue under contract and a larger AI business, though revenue growth itself slowed. Management reported revenue under contract of $33.5 billion on the fiscal Q2 2027 call on August 26, 2026. The metric grew 14% in constant currency, against the 11% management had reported a year earlier.
The AI business had grown as well. Management said annual recurring revenue from AI and data was about to cross $4 billion, against $43.9 billion of total revenue over the past four quarters. They also put Agentforce annual recurring revenue at $1.5 billion.
The shares rose 23% on August 27, logging the biggest one-day move of the window. Not every software stock rallied. Microsoft returned 34.4% over the same three months, while Oracle returned 2.4%, finishing behind the S&P 500.
Is Salesforce's Growth Still Picking Up Today?
Revenue under contract is still growing faster than it was a year earlier, but reported revenue slowed in fiscal Q2 2027. Revenue grew 10.8% in the quarter ended July 2026, falling below the pace of the April quarter. Management expects revenue under contract to grow about 14% in constant currency in fiscal Q3 2027, and said it is committed to faster revenue growth in the second half of the fiscal year. Growth in revenue under contract remains the figure to watch when Salesforce reports fiscal Q3 2027, expected on or around December 1, 2026.
How To Act On CRM?
Not necessarily on Salesforce alone, if your goal is long-term wealth. Wealth is built by owning the companies that keep outperforming, the leaders of their industries, wherever they are. Here are two companies from Salesforce's own industry that have beaten it. Over the five years to October 2026, PTC stock rose 50% and ACI Worldwide stock rose 68%, while Salesforce stock fell 15.5%.
Finding companies like these takes comparison across industries and sectors, and that is what the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio does. It holds 30 quality companies in equal weight and, since its inception in September 2020, has returned more than 105%, ahead of a benchmark that combines the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap and Russell 2000. See how we find the leaders.
