Kuala Lumpur Congress roadshow in Bologna as registrations pass 250 from 30 countries

The 35th International Publishers Congress is fast approaching. Taking place in Kuala Lumpur from 5-9 July, the Congress held its last stop on an international roadshow of book fairs with registrations continuing to pour in and the British Council announcing a programme for publishers from Indonesia, Malaysia and the UK.

The IPA Congress 2026 reception in Bologna Children's Book Fair attracted more than 40 visitors to the Malaysian stand, including the IPA President and Secretary General, in the presence of several government officers from Malaysia who also presented several book-related events in Kuala Lumpur leading up to the IPA Congress in July 2026.

Meanwhile, more group registrations for the IPA Congress are coming in from all corners of the world, led by Malaysia's own Pelangi Publishing Group, one of the nation's leading educational publishers with a strong regional presence that had just signed up 13 of their team members. So far, more than 250 seats have been snapped up. Registered participants so far are coming from over 30 countries, all continents are represented.

The British Council has announced a call for Publishing Futures at the International Publishers Congress in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, in partnership with the International Publishers Association.

A delegation of nine publishers based in Indonesia, Malaysia and the UK will be selected via open call to participate in the International Publishers Congress as well as the bespoke British Council Publishing Futures programme on the days before the Congress. The Publishing Futures programme will include roundtables and workshops with industry leaders which will offer a deep-dive into the South-East Asian publishing sector as well as topics of specific interest to the selected delegates. The IPA Congress in Malaysia in 2026 is focused on major global publishing challenges and opportunities, including AI, digital disruption, copyright, freedom of expression, and sustainable publishing practices. The programme will take place from 2-8 July 2026.

The opportunity is open to early-mid career publishers working in trade publishing, based in Indonesia, Malaysia or the UK who have an interest developing their capacity for working internationally.
